A BRIDGE BETWEEN
EUROPE AND THE MEDITERRANEAN

Emilia-Romagna has an enviable geographic location which makes it the natural bridge between North and South Italy, as well as between Europe and the Mediterranean. Situated in central Northern Italy, in the heart of the country’s most industrialised area, Emilia-Romagna is a strategic commercial area connected to the principal cities of Italy and Europe.

CROSSROADS
FOR EUROPE

10,792 km of roadways, 1,350 km of railways, 4 main airports, 17 interports and intermodal hubs, the principal Adriatic commercial port – these are what make Emilia-Romagna a crucial logistics platform for passenger and goods traffic between North and South Italy and between continental Europe and the Mediterranean.

A REGION
WITH HIGH EMPLOYMENT

Emilia-Romagna has one of the highest per capita GDP’s of any Italian region, and has been ranged for many years as one of the richest regions of Europe. Its very dynamic economy has enabled Emilia-Romagna to achieve an employment rate of 67.4%, which is well over the Italian and European averages, and an unemployment rate which is significantly lower than the EU average.

THE ENGINES OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT:
SMALL AND MEDIUM ENTERPRISES

Emilia-Romagna is not only the birth place of internationally renowned brands, but above all of small and medium enterprises boasting cutting edge technology. Research and innovation, internationalisation and specialisation are the keys to the success of our export-oriented region. The Emilia-Romagna economy is characterised by its excellent production networks, from advanced mechanical engineering, automotive, agri-food and fashion to living/construction, biomedicals, green technology and mechatronics

KNOW-HOW,
RESEARCH AND INNOVATION

Know-how, research and innovation are the keys to the Region’s economic and manufacturing development which have made our economy a strong competitor in global markets by exploiting our expertise to the full.

The Emilia-Romagna Regional Government’s High Technology Network is composed of laboratories which are equipped with competencies, tools and human resources capable of working in close collaboration with business.

Organised by Thematic Platforms which guarantee the best model for developing competencies and outstanding visibility to business, the Network, coordinated by ASTER – the regional Consortium for Innovation – includes industrial research labs and innovation centres all over the region, with activities including Agri-food, Construction, Energy and Environment, ICT and Design, Mechanics and Materials, and Life Sciences.
