Head of the Sustainability Assessment Unit at the Institute for Environment and Sustainability, DG Joint Research Centre - European Commission
Constantin Ciupagea is the Head of the Sustainability Assessment Unit at the Institute for Environment and Sustainability, DG Joint Research Centre, European Commission, managing projects related to integrated sustainability assessment as support to EU policies, environment monitoring, resource efficiency and circular economy, product policies from a life-cycle perspective, global European and regional policy scenarios and modelling, or bio-economy.
Before joining the European Commission in 2010, he was the director of the Institute of World Economy (IWE) of the Romanian Academy. Between 2006 and 2008 he acted as State Counsellor heading the Department for Economic Policies at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister of Romania, while between 1994 and 1996 he was the economic counsellor of the President of the Romanian Parliament’s Chamber of Representatives. Between 2002 and 2006 he was working as a Detached National Expert for the European Commission’s, DG JRC IPTS institute in Seville, Spain, where he was a main contributor to the establishment of the EU Industrial R&D Investment Scoreboard.
He has a PhD in macroeconomic and international trade modelling since 1997, and is the main author of two macroeconomic models for the Romanian economy.
