Thomas Arnold is Advisor for the Sustainable Bioeconomy in Directorate-General Research and Innovation of the European Commission since January 2013.

Previously he has been working in Directorate General Research and Innovation as Head of Unit in various areas, including International Scientific Cooperation, Research and SMEs, Social Sciences and Humanities, and Marie Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions.

He has an academic background of Political and Social Sciences and has studied in Cologne, Bonn and Paris.
