Since 1980, obesity rates have doubled around the world. They are on the rise in Western countries, but also in the global south. Obesity is linked to cronic deseases like type-2 diabetes, cancer and heart disease. It is now the leading cause of death in the world.

Every year, around the world, we waste around 1.3 billion tons of food. That’s over a third of all the food being produced.

In 2007, for the first time, the number of people living in cities surpassed those living in rural areas. On January 1, 2014, the global population reached 7.2 billions. According to UN estimates, this number will reach 11 billion by 2100.
