Research is very important if you want to feed the planet, because we are going to become 9 billion and we will have to increase production by 60%. To meet this challenge we have first to improve technology and knowledge, and second to help the global governance of agriculture to deal with the big problem of prices fluctuation.
With the limitations we have in resources, land, water, energy and with climate changes it is very important to have a research plan that is linked to the territrory. The fact that Emilia Romagna Region, which has launched the World Food Research and Innovation Forum, is extremely linked to the territory, with its flourishing industry and flourishing agriculture, is a very important element to bring up to the European level inputs on what research needs.
